We at Action Now support any effort at any level of government that gives the 99% a raise! That goes for federal, state, and any other unit of government. We created Raise Illinois, which is a coalition of community, religious and labor organizations, who work to get the Illinois legislature to raise the minimum wage for Illinois workers to $10.65 an hour by 2014. We also support the efforts of The 99 Uniting, who are working to raise the minimum wage at a national level.

In other news, our fight to increase the minimum wage in Illinois was covered by The Southern Illinoisan in their article, “The ups and downs of raising minimum wage” where Madeline Talbot, Lead Organizer of Action Now, was quoted:
“In the end, the basic American value that most of us share is if you work hard for a living, you should make enough to support yourself and your family. To deny that by paying $8.25 an hour, that is a scandal.”
“In Southern Illinois, minimum wage workers drive to work, they don’t have a choice. The price of gas has skyrocketed but they’ve been at the same $8.25 an hour for two years,” she said. “They’ve lost purchasing power.”
