Community Victory: Neighbors Work Together To Get Vacant Building Secured!

Action Now members in the Auburn Gresham community were concerned about the vacant buildings in their neighborhood that were left unsecured and unmaintained by the banks that were responsible for them. The buildings were left wide open to anyone who passed by, drug activity was occurring inside the properties, and they were used as trash-dumping sites. They had become an eyesore and safety hazard for community residents.

It was clear that the city was not enforcing the Vacant Property Ordinance that Action Now members had proposed and advocated for, which passed last July.

Members held house meetings, made calls to 311 and then went to door to door asking their neighbors to call 311 about these buildings as well. Within 2 weeks work began on boarding up the buildings!
